Safe & Excite

For this assignment I wanted to make use of my children's Karate belts. My ideas ranged from a wall hanging, a folding chair,a waistcoat to finally a low cushion or basically a poufe.

For the stuffing I am going to use four pillows plus some old towels.I have also used a plastic sheet on top and bottom to make it waterproof if anything were to spill on it.

In addition the bottom is made of leatheratte so that it withstands the wear and tear of usage.

Initially I wanted to create a image at the bottom using funky foam and glitter so that as well as 'safe' it was 'exciting'- see picture below. The glitter was just coming off and the foam started to break as I also tried to embroider into it.
As you can see its a karate man with the head also acting as a sun and the words karate in japanese.

This picture shows a close up of a section of the above to display the embroidery. You can also see that the glitter is spaced out as it has come off.

Please see the pictures.

Endurance:2D to 3D Mat/Poncho

These pictures are from my 'endurance' assignment where we had to produce a 2-D piece which can be then turned into 3-D.Hence I have produced a mat which can be turned into a poncho.I have used leatheratte which is waterproof combined with velvet. My idea stems from Zeltbhans which were used in world war 11 by Germans. The Zeltbhans were waterproof cloths which can be combined to make tents, raincoats or shelters.
